The Political Context and Infant Health in the United States

Most social determinants of health are shaped by political decisions. However, beyond specific policies, there is limited empirical investigation into the consequences changing context on population in United States. We examine a salient factor—the party president and governor—as determinant infant between 1971 2018 using battery fixed-effects models. focus because it has far-reaching implications for future inequality. Our analysis yields three findings: (1) Democratic presidents have beneficial effect outcomes, with stronger effects Black infants compared to White infants. (2) The president’s materializes after two years transition, remains elevated until end party’s tenure office.
